Can I Homeschool High School?

Many high school students are asking.....Can I be homeschooled? The answer is yes!

If you are a high school student or parent of a high school student,
there are some easy ways to get started...

1. Go online to HSLDA. This site will tell you the laws about homeschooling for your state. In some states, when you decide to home school, you don't have to notify anyone. Some states have forms you must fill out.

2. Choose a Homeschool Curriculum or Online Virtual School. For Virtual Schools, look online at K12, Connections Academy or Kaplan. This is a public school so it's free and they provide all your books and materials. If you want to choose all your own books and supplies, try Sonlight, Alpha Omega or Calvert.

3. Get started Homeschooling! You have a whole new future ahead of you. Congratulations!

1. Get all the facts! Research the laws for your states and what options you have.

2. Be responsible around the house. Show your parents that they can trust you to work independently.

3. Be respectful and state your case gently. This may come as a big shock to your parents.

4. Explain to your parents that Homeschooling is more mainstream now. When they were in school, it was just weird families that homeschooled.

5. Show them that you can choose to have a teacher oversee your program. Many parents are fearful of not doing a good job of homeschooling you. Look at online programs.

7. Find some other homeschool parents that they can talk to.

8. Be patient-this is a big decision for your parents and you.

9. Go online to college sites and look under "admissions" to see their policy on admitting homeschoolers. Share this information with your parents.

10. Be willing to agree to a test run to see if homeschooling is a good fit for you and your family.
